Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia
What is the difference between “closed rhinoplasty” and “open rhinoplasty”?
Closed rhinoplasty is nose surgery performed through an incision within the inner lining of the nose, leaving no visible scar or other signs of facial cosmetic surgery.
Open rhinoplasty involves an external incision being made at the columella on the underside of the nose and all cartilage and bone modifications performed under direct vision, rather than by Dr. Hamrah visualizing the end result from the inside-out. While the scar usually heals well, the possibility of undesirable, excessive scarring exists.
Does Dr. Hamrah perform both closed and open rhinoplasty surgeries?
Yes, both rhinoplasty procedure options are available to patients. However, the majority of noses can be successfully modified through a closed rhinoplasty. Only the most complicated and demanding cases necessitate the open technique.
Will my health insurance cover rhinoplasty?
If you require rhinoplasty surgery to address breathing problems, the majority of health insurance policies will cover some or all of your expenses.
However, if you desire rhinoplasty solely for cosmetic reasons, your insurance company will most likely not cover your procedure. Dr. Hamrah offers generous financing and insurance options in order to ensure that cost considerations will not hinder you from seeking a facial cosmetic solution.
What does the recovery process entail?
Recovering from rhinoplasty is generally quicker and less painful than other facial cosmetic surgery procedures. The majority of patients experience minimal discomfort and can return to work after a week. At this time Dr. Hamrah will remove you nasal splint. While bruising and swelling may persist for 2-3 weeks after surgery, the majority of pain will subside quickly.
What is revision rhinoplasty?
If your original rhinoplasty did not adequately meet your cosmetic goals, revision rhinoplasty may be necessary to modify the first procedure.
Will rhinoplasty address all of my facial cosmetic goals?
Each individual case is unique and requires the expert opinion of a cosmetic surgeon in order to accurately assess the required surgeries to meet your needs. While rhinoplasty may be sufficient to address your nose, your final beauty goals may be met through a combination of other procedures performed in conjunction, such as:
